Doğançay Museum ,museum in istanbul , turkey

The Dogançay Museum, Turkey’s first modern art museum, officially opened its doors to the public in 2004. It is housed in a historic 150-year-old five-story building located in the heart of the bustling Beyoğlu district of Istanbul and provides a general overview of a small portion of the prolific oeuvre of Burhan Dogançay, one of Turkey’s leading artists. This mini-retrospective spans five decades of Dogançay’s artistic evolution starting with his early figurative paintings up to his wall-inspired works as well as photographs. One room of the museum showcases the work of his father, Adil Dogançay.
Doğançay Museum From the inside :
Open since 2004, Turkey’s first modern art museum is located in a historic 5-story building that has been restored by its founder Burhan Doğançay. The museum is mostly dedicated to the works of its founder, who is one of Turkey’s internationally-acclaimed artists. His works include paintings, graphics, Aubusson tapestries, sculptures, and photographs.
‪great items to take home :
Urban walls have a special meaning for Dogançay: they serve as a testament to the passage of time, reflecting social, political and economic change. They also bear witness to the assault of the elements and to the markings left by people. This, according to Dogançay, is what makes urban walls monuments to the human experience and his oeuvre an archive of our time.

Adil Doğançay :
Adil Dogançay was born in Istanbul in 1900. An officer in the Turkish army, he was also a well-known painter. His works are predominantly impressionistic land and seascapes and still lifes in oil on canvas. Few of his paintings are dated; most of those on display in the museum were completed between 1940 and 1990, the year he died. As a topographer in the army, Adil traveled all over Anatolia, which gave him the opportunity to spend hours surrounded by nature. He produced most of his paintings outdoors, calling nature his “greatest teacher”.

Anadoluhisarımuseum in istanbul , turkey

Anadoluhisarı museum in istanbul , turkey:

The Fortress covers an area of about 7.000 m2. It has a 25m high central tower with five other watchtowers. Following the conquest of Constantinople, the building served as a military prison, though these days it's an open air museum. The Anatolian Fortress, which is directly opposite the Rumeli Fortress, was restored in the early 1990's.

Anadolu Hisari - Anatolian Fortress
 Overview :

This imposing reminder of Ottoman might is situated at the narrowest point of the Bosphorus on the Asian side of Istanbul. Completed in 1394 by Sultan Bayezid I, the Fortress was constructed in preparation for the second siege of Constantinople by the Ottomans in 1395 and was used to control traffic entering the Bosphorus.

History of Anadoluhisarı :
The fort was built between 1393-1394 by the Ottoman Sultan Bayezid I before he started his Second Siege of Constantinople in 1395 as a watch fort. Sultan Mehmet the Conqueror thickened the walls and paired it with Rumeli Hisari to completely control strait traffic, an important source of commerce for the Genoese, allies of the Byzantines. After the conquest of Istanbul, it was used as a military prison. First repairs were conducted by the local municipality in 1928, but extensive repairs were funded by the Ministry of Culture in 1991-3.

Unfortunately, this fort is closed to visitors for the time being, despite restorations in the early nineties. It is still possible to visit it from the street, however. Notice its irregular pentagonal shape and main watchtower. There is a mosque inside as well. Look for the structures added later on, like the warehouse and houses. The complex now covers 7 acres.
